Our house guests last night were none other than our friends in the band Mixtapes. We woke ‘em up early, made ‘em shower, and then forced ‘em to play some songs in our living room. Actually, my lovely wife can’t go to their show in Chicago tonight so she got the next best (maybe better) thing. We love that band.

Edit: Hi, this is the wifey. He’s right, I couldn’t go to the show tonight. (However, I’m wearing my Mixtapes shirt tonight to represent.) While Eric’s downtown feasting his ears upon some lovely punk rock music, I’m posting the videos from our private living room concert event from earlier today. Enjoy (we sure did).

Last weekend the wife and I headed downtown without the kids to drop off some (what else) baby clothes for our friends who are having a baby girl in July. How punk rock is that? I know. From their place we headed to a little pre-show party and had some beers as we listened to great tunes from Winepress, 88 Fingers Louie, Plow United, Weston, Samiam, and more… It was great. Finally, we got to the Beat Kitchen and caught part of The Reaganomics set but not much. Dear Landlord (as you might expect) killed it as did Broadway Calls. But the room kinda cleared out before Broadway Calls went on and I don get it. Let explain this one more time, “Broadway Calls are a great fucking band.” There. Now you know. Cobra Skulls headlined but I just wasn’t feeling it so (thus) no videos of them. Do (however) enjoy the videos of Dear Landlord and Broadway Calls below.

The wife and I headed into the city last weekend for our first night out since kiddo #2 came into the picture about 5 weeks before. We headed to Subterranean to see Lucero and find out how the songs from the 1372 Overton Park pre-order sampler would translate to the stage. Even without the horns (maybe for the better) the new tunes and old ones sounded great. It was kinda strange though. When I saw Lucero at Metro earlier this year, they were as drunk as I’d ever seen them. this time around (however) the band (Ben especially) seemed to be more sober than I can ever recall. Alcohol or no, the show was great. Here are two videos courtesy of the wife.
