Superchunk – Majesty Shredding
As embarrassing and unbelievable as this may sound, the first Superchunk songs I ever listened to intentionally were from last year’s Leaves In The Gutter EP. WTF? I know, right? Somehow my similarly musically inclined wife also missed the boat. What’s wrong with us? From what I’ve heard, it wasn’t any sort of surprise to (Read more…)
Riverdales – Tarantula
Hey! Did you know that the Riverdales released their fifth album of Ramones inspired pop-punk in 2010? Well, they did and it sounds exactly like you would expect it (and want it) to. The album is called Tarantula and in addition to being awesome, it might have the best artwork of any album released in (Read more…)
12 Days of Christmas MP3′s for 2010: Day 6
Not that it really has anything to do with this, but back when we were much younger and before we were married, the wife and I drove down from Indianapolis to Bloomington to see Sloppy Seconds at some club there. They were awesome as is their Christmas song, “Hooray For Santa Claus.” And if you (Read more…)
Iron Chic – Not Like This
Long Island’s Iron Chic has an amazing album called Not Like This out now. You can get it as a donation-based download here. It’s gruff but ultra-fucking-melodic pop punk that slays and that I’d recommend for fans of Latterman, Dear Landlord, and general awesomeness. Don’t wait on this as it’s easily one of my favorite (Read more…)
Junior Battles – Junior Battles 7″
I was totally blown away mere seconds into the self-titled 7” from Toronto, Ontario, Canada’s Junior Battles. At their core these songs are fast-paced with catchy melodies, great vocal harmonies, solid memorable lyrics played with hearts on sleeves. Sounding like a cross-between early Fall Out Boy, The Weakerthans, and Cletus (strange, I know, but it (Read more…)
RVIVR – LP
In case you didn’t know it, RVIVR is a pretty damn amazing band. On this, their first full-length, the band spits out the same sort of under-produced pop-punk that I loved on their Life Moves 7”. It’s the same sort of lovingly crappy punk I listened to as a teenager, except way way better. WAY! (Read more…)
Allister / August Premier – Live 10/3/10 @ Subterranean
I know this is about 2 months late, but sometimes things just work that way. Chicago’s Subterranean played host to the record release show for Allister’s new album Countdown To Nowhere. We saw a few old friends but it was pretty low key affair. The recently reunited August Premier along with Danger Is My Middle (Read more…)
The Reveling – 3D Radio EP
Yeah, I’m sitting here (right this minute) in West-Central Pennsylvania writing this little extra bit about how my initial draft for this post was written on June 5th of this year and is now only being posted some 5 months later. Here it is. On their 4 song 3D Radio EP, the Brooklyn based quartet (Read more…)
!Attention! – Four Or Five Ways To Play These Chords
So these motherfuckers are from Toronto or some shit like that. Figures that Canadians would be responsible for making some outstanding catchy pop punk tunes like these. The weirdest thing is that the vocals are gruff… I mean really fucking gruff. It’s almost like the guy singing scratched up his throat with some broken beer (Read more…)
