We saw a few old friends but it was pretty low key affair. The recently reunited August Premier along with Danger Is My Middle Name opened. A few videos of Allister are below:

It was a few weeks ago that the wife and I headed out to DeKalb, IL to a really cool venue called the House Cafe to see Maritime and our pals in Kid, You’ll Move Mountains. Gold Motel also played. We met up with the great bloggers from Baby, You Got A Stew Goin’ and Love Shack, Baby and also drank well into the night with Jim & Jen You’ll Move Mountains and a couple of the good dudes from Sock Monkey Sound. So, yeah, it was a good night even without any of the music.

Kid, You’ll Move Mountains played second on the bill and (in an unusual move for any band) played only new, unrecorded songs that will appear on their upcoming full-length that should be out sometime in 2011. All I can say is that new songs will blow you away. As great as Loomings is, the new one is gonna be even better. Easily the release I’m most anticipating in 2010. See for yourself below:

Maritime played a ton of songs from their three great albums as well as some songs that will appear on their first album for Dangerbird Records next year. Great stuff, but only one video since we were too busy singing along.

With the whirlwind that was the last two weeks, I wasn’t sure that I’d ever get this post up. Anyhow, the wife and I cruised through the country over to Otto’s in DeKalb, IL on a rainy Monday night to see Lucero, Ha Ha Tonka, and The Gunshy. It also happened to be Ben’s 36th birthday. Lucero (per usual) was drunk and sloppy, but the addition of the horns, the keys, and the pedal steel was all a bit too much. Maybe I’m just bitching about nothing here, but I like the stripped down Lucero better. Ben’s voice was also totally shredded. Still, Ha Ha Tonka was brilliant. This is the second time I’ve seen ‘em and they have only gotten better. Here are a few videos:

Well, I’m finally back from Florida and things have calmed down a little bit here at the CYSTSFTS homestead, so I’m finally getting around to sharing these pictures and videos of Milwaukee’s mighty Juniper Tar from their performance at Schubas two weeks ago.

The band was amazing and even better live than on their records (which is saying something) and just blew both me and the wife away. After seeing them I’m so excited for their new album (which should be recorded this summer). Also, I think it needs to be said that Ryan (their bass player) is one hell of a really nice guy as is Steve from the awesome blog Baby Stew who was also there and shares my love of Juniper Tar. The videos are below of two songs from the awesome Howl Street EP. I thought the wife got a video of “Black Pain Tea” from their forthcoming album, but I can’t find it…

So yeah, this Thursday, June 10, I’m sponsoring a pretty cool show at Mad Maggies in Elgin, IL along with the guys from Sock Monkey Sound. The line up features Geronimo!, The Please & Thank Yous, An Aesthetic Anesthetic, Solar Bear, and Oh Well. Should be tons of awesome fun. Doors are at 7PM and it’s only $7.

The only problem is that I won’t be able to make it since I’m flying to Florida on Thursday morning. There will be more. Look for another CYSTSFTS sponsored show at Mad Maggies either in July or August.

Last weekend the wife and I headed downtown without the kids to drop off some (what else) baby clothes for our friends who are having a baby girl in July. How punk rock is that? I know. From their place we headed to a little pre-show party and had some beers as we listened to great tunes from Winepress, 88 Fingers Louie, Plow United, Weston, Samiam, and more… It was great. Finally, we got to the Beat Kitchen and caught part of The Reaganomics set but not much. Dear Landlord (as you might expect) killed it as did Broadway Calls. But the room kinda cleared out before Broadway Calls went on and I don get it. Let explain this one more time, “Broadway Calls are a great fucking band.” There. Now you know. Cobra Skulls headlined but I just wasn’t feeling it so (thus) no videos of them. Do (however) enjoy the videos of Dear Landlord and Broadway Calls below.

It was two Fridays ago when the Mrs. and I headed downtown to catch Rocky Votolato and Josh Caterer (of the Smoking Popes) live at Schubas. It was simply amazing. Josh opened and I felt like I was one of the only people singing along to every single word. It kinda sucked and struck me as odd considering how great the Smoking Popes are, but people were talking through his entire set (as well as most of Rocky’s). C’mon people, if you aren’t out for the music, what’s the point? Anyhow, Josh played a whole bunch of old material from the Smoking Popes (including “Pretty Pathetic” request by the Mrs.), a Duvall song, and even what Josh described as a new song from what will be a new Popes album! Did I ever mention just how much I love the Smoking Popes?

Next Rocky played an impassioned set of songs old and new from his catalog and firmly cemented himself near the top of my favorite artists list with Makers undoubtedly being my favorite album of his. Check out the 5 videos below for proof.
