Leathermouth – XO
Leathermouth’s debut full length XO was released earlier this year and is full of raw hardcore punk that’s fast, furious, and full of anger. It’s an abrasive 10 song album that recalls old-school hardcore but with screeching (mostly) incomprehensible vocals. Much of XO ends up sounding a what a suicide bomber might sound like if (Read more…)
Shook Ones – The Unquotable A.M.H.
In my mind, Seattle’s Shook Ones have always been the world’s greatest Kid Dynamite tribute band despite playing (to my knowledge, at least) zero Kid Dynamite songs, but with their new album The Unquotable A.M.H. the band has moved past that despite their singer still being a dead ringer for Jason Shevchuk. Yeah, Shook Ones (Read more…)
Propagandhi – Supporting Caste
Winnipeg, Canada’s Propagandhi might frown on me for saying so, but I’m so glad that the NHL season is almost over. Even when the Blackhawks made it deep in the playoffs, I couldn’t get into it. Oh well, even if these guys love hockey, at least their latest album slays. Now, it had been awhile (Read more…)
Outclassed – This Might Be Coincidence…
The Pittsburgh, PA quintet Outclassed has delivered a beast of a 12” with their EP This Might Be Coincidence. It is full of bombastic and mathy (but somehow sorta straightforward) noisy hardcore that is seething with energy ready to be unleashed. Really, this shit is the real deal. In only five songs, Outclassed manages to (Read more…)
Review: City Of Ships – Live Free Or Don’t Tour
Woah. With the combined effort that is their recently released Live Free Or Don’t Tour LP, City Of Ships has dropped a mammoth and bombastic slab of shifting technical post-metal-something-core. The LP is the combination of the band’s Live Free Or Don’t EP and their more recent 2008 Tour EP and is as intense and (Read more…)
Review: Polar Bear Club – Sometimes Things Just Disappear
It could be very easy to be disappointed with Sometimes Things Just Disappear after Polar Bear Club’s awesome debut EP The Redder, The Better but just give this one a little time; it’s a slow burner. On this (their debut full-length) Polar Bear Club continues to blend catchy pop-punk hooks with slower and more angular (Read more…)
Review: One Win Choice – Never Suspend Disbelief
New Jersey’s One Win Choice spits out fast, balls-to-the-wall melodic hardcore (punk) that is easy to love and impossible to ignore. Their new album Never Suspend Disbelief is gritty, passionate, and full of optimistic energy. It is solidly played, but with just enough of a rough/sloppy edge that makes the band sounds more like friends (Read more…)
Review: Fight Pretty – Rewiring The Human Body
On their new record, Houston’s Fight Pretty spits out firebombs of dense and chaotic metalcore that takes many cues from the likes of Converge and other of that ilk. Somehow (however) the band manages to throw a little bit of rock & roll swagger and Blood Brothers-esque spastic art-punk convulsions into the mix as well. (Read more…)
