Bloggy McBloggerson (or) A Florida Mix

Posted on 19 April 2008 | 1 Comment

So Amy is in Florida for some special Disney event where they’ve invited a bunch of mom bloggers from around the country to check out Disney World. Yeah, she’s pretty much the shit when it comes to mom bloggers. I (on the other hand) am here in Chicago with Hailey on a gray (but slightly warm) day. Bet you didn’t know we were a family of bloggers did you? Well, Amy didn’t have time to make a playlist for her flight to Orlando yesterday, so here is my crack at it.

The Shortest Hiatus in History

Posted on 8 April 2008 | 1 Comment

So this may officially be the shortest hiatus in blogging history. I guess I just needed to vent and explain myself and why the posts won’t be coming as fast and as frequently as they normally do. All that being said, I’m actually working from home and watching Hailey today since she is sick and can’t go to daycare plus this little remix mix was ready to go. Enjoy.

MP3 | Vampire Weekend – Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa (Black Dominoes Remix)
MP3 | Matt & Kim – It’s A Fact (Printed Stained) (Mano Remix ft. Hollywood Holt)

It came from the nineties (Vol. 9)

Posted on 3 March 2008 | No Comments

This is a fitting way to start another week off right. Back to work after a long but eventful weekend. Amy, Hailey, and I spent the weekend up in beautiful Minneapolis, Minnesota visiting friends we haven’t seen in quite awhile. We walked around Uptown, went record shopping, watched the kids play, drank some Surly beer, toured the city’s lakes, listened to the Once soundtrack, enjoyed a real happy hour, drank some good bourbon, and more. I’ll definitely have to move the Twin Cities to my short list.

Valentine's Day Candy Heart Mix

Posted on 14 February 2008 | 1 Comment

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. This should have gone up at 7:00AM this morning, but was delayed due to technical issues with my inability to FTP. Anyhow, today spend time with those you love. Don’t worry about expensive roses, diamond rings, and all that fancy stuff. In the end, none of that matters. Tell those you really care about exactly how you feel. Oh, and every song titled “Valentine” below is distinctly different from one another. This one is for my Grandfather, we miss you.

MP3 | Wilco – I’m Always In Love
MP3 | Chuck Ragan – Valentine
MP3 | Justice – Valentine
MP3 | Get Up Kids – Valentine
MP3 | Bobby Bare Jr. – Valentine

Sickly Saturday Songs Mix

Posted on 9 February 2008 | 1 Comment

I‘ve got a suspicion that I’ll be getting sick very soon. Amy and Hailey are both miserably sick right now and Hailey is coughing away up in her room as I’m desperately hoping she settles down enough to nap. I’m not sick yet so I’m doing my best to take care of ‘em today. Whether I’m doing a good job is debatable, but hopefully this little playlist will inject a bit of “get better” into our house.

MP3 | Jawbreaker – Do You Still Hate Me?
MP3 | Drive-By Truckers – The Day John Henry Died
MP3 | Travis Tritt – It’s A Great Day To Be Alive
MP3 | Wilco – One True Vine

It came from the nineties (Vol. 3)

Posted on 5 February 2008 | 5 Comments

There were some complaints that the last installment of this series featured a bunch of crap and was like a “nightmare.” I’ll readily admit that many of the “hit” songs from the 1990’s were pretty horrible then and are just as bad today. Take it with a grain of salt and laugh as you listen. Just think of it this way; can you do the Macarena dance? Do you know all the words to “Ice Ice Baby?” I do.

MP3 | Screaming Trees – Nearly Lost You
MP3 | White Zombie – Thunder Kiss ’65
MP3 | MC Hammer – U Can’t Touch This

It came from the nineties (Vol. 1)

Posted on 29 January 2008 | 7 Comments

I guess I could say that I came of age in the 1990’s and the music of that decade is part of me. So I’ve decided to start a new feature here called “It Came From The Nineties” that will feature the songs I grew up with in the 90’s including the good, the bad, the obscure, and the ugly. The main stipulation for all the tracks here are that they were (generally speaking) major or minor hits and they also wouldn’t appear on my iPod in any other context. For example, I could certainly include a My Bloody Valentine song here, but because Loveless is on my iPod, you won’t find anything. Not that I’m only including one hit wonders, but this could easily get out of hand. Rather than the soundtrack to my teenage years, these songs were like the wallpaper. Always there and infiltrating my ears, but never really necessarily my favorites. I’ve got something like 300 songs in mind, so this will be ongoing. Enjoy.

MP3 | 10’000 Maniacs – These Are Days
MP3 | Inspiral Carpets – This Is How It Feels
MP3 | Beck – Where Its At
MP3 | Weezer – Buddy Holly
MP3 | Adina Howard – Freak Like Me

So I spent most of today cleaning the garage and re-arranging all sorts of stuff. Hailey spent all day begging to watch Little Einsteins for the millionth time. Can You See Santa From the Southside? (Vol. 5)

Posted on 24 December 2007 | 3 Comments

So it is Christmas eve folks. Are you ready? Presents wrapped and under the tree? Good. Saturday was celebrating at my Dad’s house, yesterday we were at my Aunt’s house, and we spent today with my Mom. What a whirlwind of a few days with more to come. Tis the season!

Anyhow, here are a few more Holiday tunes for your enjoyment. I’d better go and get the cookies and milk ready for Santa. I think I can hear reindeer hooves on the roof… Have a Merry Christmas or whatever it is you celebrate this time of year. Be with your family and treasure your time together and focus on the important things. Best wishes and Happy Holidays from the CYSTSFTS? family.

Cheers.

Can You See Santa From the Southside? (Vol. 1)

There is just something about the music of Christmas that just brings out the holiday spirit in me. Generally speaking, I prefer the classics (Nat King Cole, Burl Ives, Sinatra, etc…) to the modern stuff, but these are good. One of our favorites is Five Iron Frenzy’s “You Gotta Get Up.” Make some cookies, decorate the tree, and listen to some festive tunes.

MP3 | The Huntingtons – It’s Always Christmas At My House
MP3 | The Promise Ring – Holiday Adam
MP3 | The Swimmers – The Christmas Sound
MP3 | Aberdeen City – Just Like Christmas
MP3 | Sufjan Stevens – Come On Let’s Boogey To The Elf Dance
MP3 | The Dismemberment Plan – This Christmas
MP3 | New Found Glory – Ex Miss
MP3 | Duvall – Angels We Have Heard On High
MP3 | Five Iron Frenzy – You Gotta Get Up
MP3 | Belle And Sebastian – O Come All Ye Faithful

A Halloween Birthday Mix for Amy (or) Thirty Songs for Thirty Years

Posted on 31 October 2007 | 9 Comments

Amy & Hailey
Not only is today Halloween, it is also my beautiful wife Amy’s thirtieth (30th) birthday. That’s a milestone that means, “Damn we are gettin’ old!” At least I have a year to go. Anyhow, since I already had this post basically done prior to the death of my computer, all I have to do is hit the “publish” button and I’m done. Lucky me. Sometimes a little planning is a good thing.

Anyhow, here are thirty songs for thirty years. All specifically for my wife and all with some special meaning to her or just songs that she really likes. A fitting tribute (along with a visit to the salon) I think. Plus how cool is it that her birthday is on Halloween? It’s no wonder that candy corn is her favorite vegetable. Also, here is my daughter Hailey dressed up as a pink leopard (note the sweet shoes).
Hailey
