Who is Bella Morte?

Wow, I’m only about 30 days delinquent with this post. Figures, right? So we took a little trip down to St. Louis to spend the highly overrated new years holiday with my brother and his wife. After we spent most of NYE morning at The Magic House with my daughter, I headed out to the Schlafly Bottleworks with my brother for a few pre-countdown beers. After a delicious Chocolate Stout and a Winter ESB, we headed across the street to pick up some drinks for the evening.

Basically, we needed to supplement the Fat Tire and bourbon we had on hand, so we stopped at the Maplewood Shop ‘n Save for some Sparks and Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus; classy choices, I know. While standing in the checkout line, my brother (who is always Mr. Chatty with complete strangers) asked a girl in front of us, “Is that a Faith No More shirt?” She responded, “No. It is a Bella Morte shirt.” As big music fans we were both like, “Who the fuck is Bella Morte,” and she proceeded to describe them as a “goth rock” band that sounds a little like Marilyn Manson. Admittedly, that didn’t sound too appealing to me, but we were intrigued. Did I mention that she was purchasing two 6 packs of Smirnoff Ice? Well, she was… and she looked underage. It was actually pretty funny.

So here’s the explanation of the delay. When we got back from St. Louis, I meant to check out Bella Morte but never did. No reason other than I just didn’t do it and (honestly) I expected it to be a big pile of crap. So when I just listened to some Bella Morte songs on their myspace page and I heard more Linkin Park (and maybe even Faith No More) than I did Marilyn Manson I was surprised. What do you think? Should I review their new album?

They are new to me to. I loved Andy Deans voice, but felt the music fell a little short of the mark. As if their hearts weren’t completely into it.
I would be interested to read your take though.
