I’ve gotta thank Bryan from Nine Bullets for pointing me in the direction of Florida’s Truckstop Coffee because, damn, their new album, For Dear Life, is better than good and without his recommendation I would (most likely) never have heard of this band. The band plays twangy alt-country rock that reminds me a bit of Gasoline Heart, 500 Miles To Memphis, or maybe even (I know it gets old) Lucero. It’s slow-burning rock that’s steeped in earnest heartland barroom glory and bluesy Florida nights. It’s perfect for drinking… and other things, but drinking, yeah. I mean, you can’t possibly tell me that “16 Ounces” is about anything but drinking? It can’t be. Anyhow, nothing’s groundbreaking here but that’s obviously not the point. The singer sounds a little like Jeff Caudill with a bit more twang and there’s enough harmonica and weeping lead guitar solos that you know this is the real deal. Did that even make sense? I don’t care because this flat out rocks. For Dear Life most certainly is the real deal and will be on my best of 2009 list so get if from the bands website (above) as a pay-what-you-want digital download.

Great band! They are local to me so I have been lucky to catch a few gigs. They really stepped it up on this album.
