So last year I raved (read the review here) about the debut 7″ from Kingston, Pennsylvania’s Title Fight and the poppy melodic hardcore that filled up the wax. I’m a Midwesterner and this just reeks of Eastern seaboard. Title Fight’s sound is gritty, fast, and makes me long for the days when I was young enough to see Kid Dynamite at the Fireside Bowl on a weeknight and not care. I know it makes me sound old and jaded, but hey, nostalgia can be a good thing. Anyhow, the band is back with a 12-song collection that includes the 3 songs from the Kingston 7″, three new songs (available on their own as a 7″) and (for you math experts) 6 more songs all in under 27 minutes. I said it before and I’ll say it again:
[The Kingston 7"] is a fast and furious blast of guitars, bass, and drums that clocks in at a shade under 7 minutes 30 seconds and begs you to keep flipping the record over and over and over; it’s that good.
So yeah, again, what you’ve got here is some of the best post-Lifetime melodic punk rock I’ve heard this side of Saves The Day. This time around (however) things are a bit less straightfoward, more meandering, more hardcore, and more and, well, better. It’s East Coast punk rock that even my wife (born and raised in Pennsylvania) approves of. Any why not? The Last Thing You Forget is top notch and available from Run For Cover.

1. You got to see kid dynamite?! Luuuucky, and so very jealous.
2. I thought half of this album was solid, their older material. It sounds like they are trying to mix a lot of styles together, and it seems like they haven’t found their sound just yet. Peeps here in Philly go apeshit for them though.
Silverunity – I agree that their older material sounds, well, better. It does sound like they’re trying to “mature” and explore more than just fast hardcore influenced pop punk, but that’s what, at least for now, they do best.
Yeah, I saw the last show of Kid Dynamite’s last tour here in Chicago. It was their last show before those reunion shows.
