The Wooden Birds – Magnolia

For anyone that is/was a fan of the final three American Analog Set records, finding out that AmAnSet frontman Andrew Kenny had a new band was exciting news. Well, I was (at least) excited. Anyhow, his new band is The Wooden Birds and their debut album is called Magnolia. The sound is similar but where AmAnSet had vibes to compliment Kenny’s hushed vocals, The Wooden Birds turn to lovely and layered percussive sounds to fill out the almost too easy indie rock. Magnolia is a quiet and intimate affair with little more than Kenny’s voice, his acoustic guitar, percussion, and female backing vocals. Really, there isn’t much more I can say about this album other than I really love it and that it sounds a little/lot like AmAnSet but quieter.
