The songs of the Chicago Cubs

Wrigley Field
Even though the first place Chicago Cubs lost yesterday in the finale of this rain-shortened series against the Cardinals, I still feel pretty good about their chances to make the playoffs and win the awful NL Central. To celebrate the Cubs once again being in first place and making a run, here are a few of my favorite Chicago Cubs and baseball related songs.

MP3 | Steve Goodman – Go Cubs Go
MP3 | The Mountain Goats – Cubs In Five
MP3 | The Brothers Defino – WGN Radio Cubs Theme
MP3 | John Fogerty – Centerfield
MP3 | Steve Goodman – A Dying Cubs Fan’s Last Wish
MP3 | The Chicago Cubs Singers – Hey Hey Holy Mackeral

I finally have WGN in my NYC pad, so I can finally start watching our cubbies during the week. We’re so close, I can taste it. Taking 2 of 3 from the Cards while the Brewers were getting stomped definitely helps. When Soriano comes back in 2 weeks or so… look out, NL Central.

    Good lookin’ E.

Oh man I love Cubs in Five. I saw him play it at a show in Chicago last summer and with the whole crowd yelling along it was magic.

Good to see your post about “Go, Cubs, Go” and “A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request” by Steve Goodman. He often doesn’t get his due. Thought you might be interested in an eight-year project of mine that has come to fruition — an 800-page biography of Goodman published in May, “Steve Goodman: Facing the Music.” The book delves deeply into the origin of Goodman’s Cubs songs. Please check my Internet site below for more info. Just trying to spread the word. Feel free to do the same!
