The Atlanta, GA quartet The Parade is a young and spirited female-fronted band that plays lo-fi indie rock. Vocalist Carrie Hodge and company sound a little like Lisa Loeb playing songs in the vein of Sebadoh’s poppier moments and Murmur era R.E.M. Their latest EP Answer Me is pretty good even if it is a little meandering. On it, The Parade aren’t really exploring any new musical territory but they do show promise. Melodically competent but not always right on target, they sound like a band still searching for their identity as they zig zag through the five indie pop tunes on the EP. Not that any of it is bad. It isn’t. My biggest complaint is that while there are moments in which the band really shines, there are other times that they come off sounding like nothing more than just another local alternative rock band. My inner producer thinks that tightening up the songs a bit and a little better production (bass sounds = poo) would make The Parade a band to keep an eye on.
