If you like your indie-rock a little on volatile and caustic side with a little spazz-core thrown in for good measure, then Dirty Versions might be exactly the record you are looking for. We Versus The Shark recorded the album live with minimal overdubs in an attempt to get the as raw and direct a sound as possible. It shows. The album is a loud and abrasive blast of dizzying intensity that seems to want to uncontrollably veer into a million directions at once, but it’s also a little funky so you can dance to it as well. Just imagine (if you will) a synthesis of The Blood Brothers and Q And Not U and all the shrieking, mathy guitars, crashing cymbals, and spastic propulsion that those bands conjure up. A glorious fiesta of almost-out-of-control noise makes Dirty Versions is the sort of album that my wife hates but my brother loves. Me? Well, I like it too. We Versus The Shark is the audio equivalent of a kid’s seventh birthday party at the local pool with all that splashing, running, jumping, sugary twitching, and youthful energy puncturing the day… and that one kid that leaves a warm spot wherever he goes. Like that except that the smell of sunscreen has been replaced with cigarettes and sweat. Dirty Versions is a record that I’ve grown to like more with each listen so get it now from Hello Sir Records.
