Alright. There seems to be a domino effect when I find out about great new bands; find one and a bunch more will follow. Virgins (not to be confused with The Virgins from NYC) are yet another Florida-based punk trio that is, well, awesome. On the debut full-length, Miscarriage, the band plays that snotty, melodic, and catchy (but not quite pop punk) brand of straight up hardcore influenced punk that wouldn’t be complete with gruff almost sing-a-long vocals. I honestly didn’t really like this at first but Virgins swiftly snared me in with their lo-fi almost “old school” punk sound that’s sloppy, abrasive, and full of energy. Oh yeah, I also didn’t mention yet that singer/guitarist Sam Johnson spent a whole lot of years playing in New Mexican Disaster Squad, so that should give you at least a little indication of where Virgins are coming from. Because of its total awesomeness (and the fact it is only about 25 minutes long), Miscarriage has quickly become one of the most played albums around here. I’d totally recommend this to fans of The Nobodys, Cleveland Bound Death Sentence, and The Misfits.
