Review: Twin Sister – Vampires With Dreaming Kids EP

I have a twin sister and this isn’t her band. In fact, this doesn’t sound anything remotely like her but if you removed any trace of boss nova influence from Stereolab’s sound, de-fuzzed The Jesus And Mary Chain a little, and coaxed Julie Doiron into a duet with Kevin Shields and listened to those as you walked around Tokyo in a semi-conscious state at 4AM, you might begin to approximate what Twin Sister sounds like on their Vampires With Dreaming Kids EP. It is a shimmering a dreamy affair that brings to mind what happens when dreamy indie pop meets languid shoegaze in a dew-covered meadow of pre-dawn English folk songs. This New York based band shows that they can be experimental without being tedious and (with that) have pushed one of the most unexpectedly awesome releases I’ve heard all year across my plate and yours. Head over to Twin Sister’s site to download it for free. Really, Vampires With Dreaming Kids would have been a near-perfect addition to the hazy soundtrack of Lost In Translation. Damn.

I remember this band from the 90’s named Twin Sister that sang all Star Wars referenced songs in the style of 90’s Alternative, wasn’t terrible, but obviously not the same band.
