Review: Travel By Sea – …Days Of My Escape

If you are looking for slowly meandering alt-country then you need to look no further than Travel By Sea and their latest album …Days Of My Escape. It is full of sparse and spacious arrangements that oftentimes feature a lone banjo or guitar, some vocals, and little else. With the poignant vocals with a tone that falls somewhere between Willie Nelson, John Darnielle, and Jay Farrar, and a music backdrop that reminds me (a lot) of Sun Kil Moon, you can start to imagine just how good this album is. The band is made up of Kyle Kersten (from Tustin, California) and Brian Kraft (from Denver, Colorado) and actually assembled the songs on …Days Of My Escape remotely a few states apart. The pace might be a little slow for some but there’s really not a bad song on the record. I also need to mention that …Days Of My Escape was released on Autumn Tone Records, which is Justin from Aquarium Drunkard’s label for those who didn’t already know. Good stuff. Very good stuff.
