Leave it up to the dudes over at Beartrap (Chuck & Will, we luv ya!) to keep my ears happy cuz I haven’t heard a splilt 7” that’s this good in quite some time. I got the Distances split 7” from The Wonder Years / All Or Nothing and have been spinning the shit out of it the last few days. Pennsylvania’s The Wonder Years get first crack and holy shitballs, I like this a lot. Imagine post-Lifetime pop-punk that sounds a little like New Found Glory meets the first Starting Line record (if it was way way better and not annoying all). I dunno. It’s hard to tell because I’m bouncing off the fucking walls. Both songs, “An Elegy For Baby Blue” (a song about a stolen bike) and “Don’t Open The Fridge!” are fast-paced and anthemic hardcore-tinged pop-punk with keyboard melodies (that are unnecessary but unobtrusive like the keys Reggie added to Something To Write Home About) underlaying the song. Seriously, how have I never heard of this band before?
And if that wasn’t enough you get two songs from England’s All Or Nothing. I didn’t know kids from across the pond played pop-punk like this but jeezus christos it’s fucking awesome too. This also has a big New Found Glory Vibe that’s a bit heavier than on the flipside despite (also) having killer harmonies, gang vocals, and breakdowns. The two songs (“I’m Not Being Rude but I Could Have Had your Job” and “Summer Vacation In Providence”) are both catchy-as-fuck and also sorta remind me of Title Fight. I now need to go get any other records these two bands have available thanks to No Sleep Records. Oh yeah, the 7” is on tasty clear blue vinyl and comes with a digital download. I feel like I’m seventeen again. Thanks guys.
