Review: The Shaking Hands – The Shaking Hands

The Shaking Hands are a punk band from Gainesville, FL that is both melodic and a bit abrasive. Imagine that. The band also features members of Young Livers so that’s got to count for something, right? Anyhow, The Shaking Hands (previously known as The Horror) have released their self-titled debut as The Shaking Hands and it is full of fierce but fairly straightforward punk that’s got plenty of “whoa-oh’s” for you to sing along with. So, yeah, there are really catchy parts but they are few enough and there is more than enough grit for this to not be labeled as pop-punk. It kinda (at times) reminds me of what Rancid might have sounded like if they had no ska influence and were way tighter and if their bass player sang all the songs. I mean, who doesn’t like “Tenderloin?” Honestly, I don’t have a ton more to say about this record other than I like it. I just got done watching LOST and now my brain is fried for the evening. Damn television.

i don’t want to naysay, but there isn’t someone named Brett in Rancid. maybe you were thinking Lars? he’s in Rancid. possibly also accidentally referring to Brett Gurewitz?

Except Brett Reed, who was their drummer for 15 years…
