Have you ever wondered just what bluegrass from Brooklyn might sound like? Well, one listen to Overcome from Brooklyn’s Jones Street Boys and you’ll have your answer. They play bluegrass with a decidedly modern and urban twist. Still of slower and more laid-back places but somehow a little more refined when the banjo, mandolin, guitar, and harmonica combine spill their melodies. But with the addition of drums and keys many songs have an almost ragtime feel and with some impressively refined and daringly radio-friendly vocal harmonies, Overcome isn’t for the old-school purists. It is (however) for just about anyone that is fan of good tunes. Plus, “One Last Love Song” features guest vocals from John Langford of Mekons/Waco Brothers.
