Review: The Ergs – Hindsight Is 20/20, My Friend

I’ve never hidden my love of pop punk, so it’s a little strange that (until hearing this) The Ergs were a band I’d heard of but never actually heard. Things just work out that way sometimes, but if If you love pop-punk there is no reason that you shouldn’t love The Ergs. Well, From 2000 to 2008 the New Jersey band blasted out pop punk and released more records that I will ever be able to keep track of. Luckily their final (well, almost final) release is a 33-song collection of songs from 7-inches and compilations called Hindsight Is 20/20, My Friend. It is a great document and (in my case) a great introduction to a band that I came to know much too late in the game. There’s pop punk and a dozen other permutations of the genre represented here and, as someone who was basically unfamiliar with The Ergs before hearing this, I’m floored by just how good this is and just how versatile The Ergs really were. Sloppy but skillful energetic pop punk that reminds me of the mid 90’s and being young and carefree. It’s is just the way I like it. I’ll still miss ‘em even though I never really knew ‘em.
