The Details call the prairies of Western Canada and Winnipeg, Manitoba home and their latest album (even though it’s over a year old) is called Draw A Distance. Draw A Border. Its songs border on mainstream alterna-rock (think perhaps the Goo Goo Dolls) without being emotionless or insincere. They go from rockin’ to slower and back again using instruments like pedal steel, banjo, cello, viola, trumpet, and piano to broaden their sound. And while many will compare The Details to The Weakerthans (mainly because they both call Winnipeg home) I don’t really hear it. I hear something more akin to Death Cab with their melodies straightened out and the reverb pulled back and with shades of The Decemberists and Will Sheff thrown in for good measure. Much less immediate than that but sill occupies some of the same sonic space. If that sounds good to you, definitely check out Draw A Distance. Draw A Border.
