Review: The Bronx – The Bronx (III)

I saw The Bronx a few years back and kinda disliked them… a lot. I listened to their first few albums and just said, “ehh…” But now, with their third eponymous album, the band has finally managed to strike a positive chord with me. From the opening chugging of “Knifeman” and on and on, The Bronx sounds like the band worthy of all the A&R frenzy bestowed upon them back in the day. On past albums (to me) they just sounded like assholes trying to play tough-guy punk rock. And while they still sound a little like that, there is a totally L.A. glam element that makes me believe that these guys really have the swagger to back up the killer riffs that permeate all of The Bronx III. It walks the line wavy dotted line between AC/DC, Black Flag, Slaughter, and The Misfits and I fuckin’ love it. Finally. Good job Bronx guys, but why the hell do you name your band after a New York borough when you’re from Los Angeles? Or did you just name the group knowing that Pete Wentz would name his first child Bronx? Ha.

Spot on review, I had pretty much the same reaction when listening to these guys.

And I was wondering the same thing about their name… (although your Pete Wentz insight probably nailed it haha)
