Review: Sera Cahoone – Only As The Day Is Long

So who is Sera Cahoone? Well, she played drums in Carissa’s Wierd and on the first Band of Horses album for starters and her latest album Only As The Day Is Long a gem of an indie country record. Her vocals are sultry yet relaxed and slow burning but gentle. The airy arrangements have a sorta (almost) Whiskeytown, Gillian Welch, or Ryan Adams vibe. It just sounds natural and and sad and relaxing and like Sera’s longing for something she might never find. Sometimes Cahoone sounds like beautiful girl next door, other times like the mother of your children, and other times like that cold-hearted woman that broke your heart. Only As The Day Is Long is out now on Sub Pop.
