I’m trying to think of what to write about this album as I’m watching the Presidential debate between McCain and Obama. What I’m thinking is that these two guys need a little rock and roll infused into their campaigns. Maybe a little 1985 to spice up their debates and get ‘em all dancing. I’d love to hear McCain say, “My friend, Barack, you should hear the new Riddle of Steel album, it’s pretty bitchin’.” Like that will ever happen. Anyhow, if you are in need of some foot stomping angular guitar rock that reminds me of Paris Texas with some of the emo influences replaced by post rock, you’ve come to the right place. The St. Louis, Missouri trio’s hard rockin’ glam-influenced indie rock n roll songs flow like water to the sea with and effortless and easy hooks. Like buffalo wings with hot sauce in your mouth, 1985 is like that in your ears. Riddle of Steel nods to the classics but marches right past.
