Review: Racebannon – Acid Or Blood

Acid Or Blood is a sludgy mess of sometimes technical and sometimes noisy metallic fury. It is the rock-n-roll equivalent of mud wrestling. In other (and more complex wordsmithery) this is bombastic and eardrum-shattering riffage that swerves from lumbering to spastic and back again. There is the blast beat beating and the really surprisingly groovy chugging that is highly listenable despite the raw and brutal nature of everything contained on Acid Or Blood. Welcome to the world of Bloomington, Indiana’s Racebannon. It is a violent and trashy/thrashy wasteland where the gods of avant-metallic-hardcore will make your brother cry and beg for mercy before they puke up their lunches.

But perhaps the greatest and most twisted asset that Racebannon has is the throat-shredding and almost Patton-esqe howls of vocalist Michael Anderson. It almost makes Racebannon sound like the illegitimate love child of Apocalypse Hoboken and Dillinger Escape Plan. If you ain’t interested yet, you’ll never be.
