So what the fuck is with this Liquid Limbs record, Orquid? It is dark, heavy, and mathy without being any of those things. It’s weird. This Gainesville, FL duo (and what the fuck is up with duo’s being the new power trio?) plays rock music that is noisy and sludgy and, well, just a bit discombobulated. Some of Orquid is really really good while other parts are a little questionable. It is an inconsistent album with flashes of brilliance that make it even more of a confounding listen. Overall, though, Orquid is worth a listen or two or ten or a hundred. Just imagine Mclusky vs. Torche with a little Tool thrown in for good measure. Liquid Limbs is just a really strange (but totally awesome) record that’s melodic and rhythmically engaging. I’d hesitate at calling this experimental, but this certainly isn’t your standard issue sludgefest as there is way to fucking much happening here, but in a good way. I like it a bunch and I’ve got a feeling you might like this too.
