Okay. I loved Jason Shevchuk as the singer of Kid Dynamite but never really latched on to None More Black the way I expected to. So when None More Black split up I just sorta shrugged my shoulders and said,“eh,” expecting that to be the last I’d hear from Mr. Shevchuk. I was wrong. I was wrong and I’m glad I was wrong.
When Shevchuk started working on solo material he had no intentions of starting a band, but sometime these things just happen. So for a short while LaGrecia was Jason along with Dana Berkowitz and Sal Dellaquila (who also did the awesome album artwork). They recorded and recently released their debut full-length On Parallels but Jason has since left the band and, well, who knows what’s next.
While everything that Shevchuk does will always be compared (in some way or another) to Kid Dynamite, On Parallels is a little different. It’s a little more mid-tempo pop-punk-rock and a little less hardcore than either of Shevchuk’s previous bands but it still rocks and will certainly get your toes tapping. It is hella fun, hella catchy, and Shevchuk’s snarling-yet-melodic vocals sound better than ever. Musically, LaGrecia keeps it simple and lets their bouncy rhythms spill out around Shevchuk’s vocals and it works. it works really well. Kudos to Suburban Home for putting this out despite the breakup.
