Review: Kittens Ablaze – The Monstrous Vanguard

I wrote about Kittens Ablaze and their Hot Litter EP last year and was super stoked to hear their new album The Monstrous Vanguard. It sounds like a cross Between Okkervil River and Defiance, Ohio with a little bit of Bloc Party thrown in for good measure if you can imagine that. This Brooklyn sextet plays their own frenetic version of crazed dance-punk-folk is unlike just about any single thing I’ve ever heard. As much as I don’t think the kids will be bangin’ this as one of their summer anthems, I think The Monstrous Vanguard is really a great record and has been getting plenty of playing time around the Casa de CYSTSFTS. Viva Kittens Ablaze!

I’m not a huge fan of indie/folk usually, but I really like this album a lot. It’s actually on my todo list to post.
