Review: Kathleen Edwards - Asking For Flowers

The easy-yet-earnest melodies of Asking For Flowers are just about perfect. Ranging from uptempo rootsy rockers to softly fingerpicked folksy acoustic numbers, these songs demonstrate just how fucking (seriously, it can be OK to swear sometimes) great Kathleen Edwards really is.
Sounding something like Whiskeytown vs. Miranda Lambert vs. Uncle Tupelo, Edwards’ songs are filled with slide guitars, some pedal steel, harmonica, and all your standard alt-country trimmings, but it’s her vocals that take center stage. It is sincere but a bit dusty and subtly caustic; imperfect but perfect for her brand of rough-around-the-edges alt-country-pop.

Review: Head Of Femur - Great Plains Review: Blackstrap - Steal My Horses And Run

Kathleen Edwards is pretty amazing. I haven’t had a chance to listen to this album yet, but it’s bound to be good. Although it will be hard to top her first album, Failer.
