Review: Joe Pug – Nation Of Heat EP

I saw Joe Pug open up for Backyard Tire Fire and Ha Ha Tonka maybe a month ago and he was great as is his newest recording the Nation Of Heat EP. Pug is a Chicago-based singe/songwriter (only in the sense that he writes and sings mostly acoustic songs) that shows off Dylan-esqe vocals and fairly traditional Americana country-folk guitar playing. Occasionally other instrumentation (most often Joe Pug’s harmonica) is added to the musical equation but mostly it’s just Joe and his acoustic guitar. Now Joe Pug is the kind of guy that can quiet a big crowd with his songs and have everyone hanging on every last word he spills. He’s got a weariness that belies his age, sounding like a man much older; a man who has experienced the world and lived to tell about it. If you are looking for something honestly great, look no further than Joe Pug’s Nation Of Heat EP.
