Jackson United is a punk (well, sorta punk, I guess) band fronted by Chris Shiflett who is more well-known as the guitarist for Foo Fighters and Me First And The Gimme Gimmes. The band was formed as a trio in 2003 with Shiflett’s older brother Scott (of Face To Face, 22 Jacks, Viva Death) on bass and Pete Parada (of Face To Face, Saves The Day, The Offspring) and shortly thereafter added second guitarist Doug Sangalang. After losing a few different drummers and a period of inactivity due to Shiflett’s commitments to Foo Fighters, in 2007 the band began working on the album that would become Harmony And Dissidence. Two of Shiflett’s Foo Fighters band mates, Dave Grohl and both contributed drums to the album before Jackson United found a (at least for now) permanent drummer in Joe Sirois (of Mighty Mighty Bosstones). So, yeah, the band is made up of punk rock all-stars and Harmony And Dissidence is full of straightforward mid-tempo punkish rock songs that sound pretty much exactly as I expected them to. Anyone remember Atomic Boy? There’s nothing truly exciting about this record and the nostalgia of mid-90’s major label punk, but were you really expecting more? A decently solid and good (if unremarkable) album.
