Review: Incommunicado – Losing Daylight

So I just got back from a 4 mile run (this was written a few days back, I actually only ran 2.5 tonight) and Incommunicado’s Losing Daylight served as an excellent soundtrack. The album starts off with choppy marching hardcore bullets and over the course of twelve songs slows down just enough that it’s noticeable. Just imagine No Empathy’s pogo rock juxtaposed with Sparta’s arena punk. Or maybe like the twisting and turning of Fugazi and At The Drive-In’s more polished moments bottled up with the energy and East Coast feel of the Bouncing Souls. Does it sound complicated? It really isn’t. Losing Daylight is just really good hardcore/emo-punk that isn’t afraid to get a little angular or restrained. In other words, this is somewhere between straightforward and totally fuckin’ crazy with some really killer bass playing anchoring it all down.

As sort of an aside, Incommunicado is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “So what,” you say. Well, it turns out that my wife actually grew up with and/or knows some of the guys in the band from her days in beautiful St. Marys, PA. How very very interesting.
