We took my three year old daughter, Hailey, to see one of the muppets from Sesame Street and Cookie Monster at a bookstore this morning. Not just some second rate puppeteers, but the actual people that being them to life on TV. I probably don’t have to mention that she was excited and that she was practically bouncing off the walls waiting to see them. Then the event organizers fed her (and about 50 other kids) juice and cookies. Not chocolate chip cookies, but giant frosted sugar cookies. You can probably imagine the onslaught of sugar buzzed toddlers bum rushing the stage. It was insane. So that’s kinda the real world equivalent of the UK band Free Diamonds. Their spastic post-folk-punk sounds a little like Defiance Ohio vs. Apocalypse Hoboken vs. Jaguar Love vs. Atom & His Package vs. Cap n’ Jazz, eating sugar cookies, of course. Free Diamonds’ 2007 album By The Sword is a high-energy affair with plenty of acoustic guitars, keyboards, etc… that are funky, punky, and, uh, emo-unky. It’s just plain fun. So much fun that my daughter was dancing like a child possessed to this earlier. Dig it friends.
