One of the best movies of all time has got to be The Shawshank Redemption. No question about it. Not the best of all time, but right up there. Maybe that has at least a little bit to do with why I’m digging the new Antillectual album so damn much. The final song on their latest album Testimony ends with a sample from Shawshank and it couldn’t be more fitting. Testimony is a brilliant melodic/aggressive punk rock album that combines the best of Funeral Oration, 88 Fingers Louie, Propagandhi, Strike Anywhere, etc… In simpler words; it’s an amazing album.

But despite the blazing full-throttle melodic punk rock that Antillectual has seemingly perfected, the album is far from one-dimensional. The band sings about hopelessness and modern political issues to a backdrop of furious drums and shredding hardcore guitars but isn’t afraid to add acoustic guitars and slower mid-tempo songs to punctuate when needed. Testimony is truly an album that I can (and have) listened to over and over. While it might just sound like I’m simply describing “punk rock” to you, just trust me, there is something different and wholly unique about this album that makes it unforgettable.
