Recently ’round here

Yeah, the holiday season is just about here so I thought I’d give you a rundown of what we’ve been up to lately. In addition to writing about music and here, I’ve also been writing at ParentSphere, a site I write with my wife that is aimed a little more at, well… parenting than this one. We currently giving away a TON of cool stuff including a Flip digital camcorder, an Epson all-in-one printer, and even PopStar Guitar for Wii. Check out the giveaways here if you so choose.

What else? Let’s see… last Friday evening the wife and I headed downtown for a night of show hopping and other such whatnot. We started the evening at Metro to see The Acorn, who were opening for Calexico. While I have enjoyed The Acorn’s recent album Glory Hope Mountain, their live set showed a side that was a little noisier, a little louder, and a little more intense than their album. I was thoroughly impressed. But managed to miss an opportunity to interview Rolf from The Acorn since we didn’t stick around for Calexico and (instead) headed to the Bottom Lounge (I hadn’t yet been to the new location) to see M83.

The show was sold out so the place was (expectedly) packed and I didn’t get anywhere near the stage, but still enjoyed the shoegazey electronic pop-noise. I was (perhaps) even more impressed by their huge tour bus parked outside of the club. A few drinks were had and we even met up with new friends Naomi and Bob from Wichita. Cool peeps and a fun time indeed.
