Purging the Record Pile

Yeah. So I’ve got tons of records piled up around my house and on my computer (but those take up infinitely less space) and I feel like I need to write something about all of ‘em. By tons I mean approximately 356 records. Trust me, I listen to everything, but finding the time to write coherent and at least partially researched reviews takes time and I don’t have a lot of free time. When I do, it usually means nights that are way too late and the subsequent (every time I write or say this word I want to start singing Friction’s “Subsequently”) crabby coffee-fueled mornings. So here are a few albums that I’d like to recommend but can’t find exactly the right words to say. Instead, I’ll keep it simple and let the music do most of the talking. You know a picture (I don’t know if this applies to digital sound files) is worth a thousand words.

On Twilight, Baskervilles play highly orchestrated happy-go-lucky twee-as-fuck indie-pop from NYC where boy/girl vocal harmonies will brighten your day.

I saw Cloud Cult live earlier this year and this song from Feel Good Ghosts was a highlight from their stellar live set full of eclectic and energetic indie rock.

Nude With Boots is 19th full-length album from sludge-rock-metal pioneers the Melvins. You already know what this sounds like and if you don’t, you should.

Luke Temple is a guy whose wistful folk instrumentation meets playful electronic psych noodling behind a delicate falsetto. The album is called Snowbeast.
MP3 | Luke Temple – Saturday People Snowbeast

Stone Gods have an album called Silver Spoons And Broken Bones. It is essentially just The Darkness with a different singer. Just imagine ACDC vs. Metallica vs. Def Leppard and you might be close.
MP3 | Stone Gods – You Brought A Knife To A Gunfight Silver Spoons And Broken Bones

Playradioplay!‘s debut album Texas is what happens when kids make music that is the sum of influences like The Postal Service vs. The Secret Handshake vs. Dashboard Confessional.
