Winnipeg, Canada’s Propagandhi might frown on me for saying so, but I’m so glad that the NHL season is almost over. Even when the Blackhawks made it deep in the playoffs, I couldn’t get into it. Oh well, even if these guys love hockey, at least their latest album slays. Now, it had been awhile since I last listened to Propagandhi (i.e. the last album of theirs I’m familiar with is Less Talk, More Rock from 1996) but, damn, I’m really digging their latest Supporting Caste. The band is heavier and faster than I remember, but still retains enough of a biting melodic edge that some might dare call this pop-punk. I (however) am not one of those people but I am willing to call this easily one of the best punk releases of 2009 so far. And in honor of National Running Day, I’ll add that Supporting Caste makes a great soundtrack to a good run. The band is playing Chicago on June 18th with Strike Anywhere. I’ll see you there.

By far my favorite release of 2009 (so far). Propagandhi shreds. if you like this heavier sound, go check out their earlier album “Today’s Empire, Tomorrow’s Ashes”. That’s the album where they switched up the style (no more John K).
YES YES YES!!!!
