Yes, you read that correctly. We are revisiting our favorite records of ten years ago again in 2009 and reminiscing (this time) about 1999 and after going through my record collection all I can say is, “Holy Shit!” So many of my all-time favorites were released in 1999. It’s almost hard to believe. My co-conspirators are (again) Will (soundaslanguage.com), James (getoveryourselfbklyn.com. I’m sure I missed something and I may have gotten the release dates wrong, but here’s the list I’m sticking to. If you want to see last year’s list, here’s my list of 1998 favorites.
Allister – Dead Ends & Girlfriends
Our first full-length. Man that left channel guitar tone is sick! This is pure narcissism.
American Football – American Football
This album set a standard in plinky twinkly emo that I judge everything else against.
Blur – 13
This album is crazy, noisy, and full of great pop songs.
Bouncing Souls – Hopeless Romantic
Amy and I used to play the shit out of this album bouncing around our tiny apartment and in her shitty Ford Escort. Remember the sheep mask?
Coalesce – 0:12 A Revolution In Just Listening
RAWR!
Dillinger Four – This Shit Is Genius
A collection of comp songs and early 7″ records. So fucking amazing.
The Dismemberment Plan – Emergency & I
Quite possibly the best album of 1999 if not the entire decade of the 90′s.
The Flaming Lips – The Soft Bulletin
This is what happened when The Flaming Lips went all mainstream on us and it’s magical.
Gameface – Every Last Time
Has it really been ten years Jeff? I remember borrowing this from Jacob (who borrowed it from Justin) and not returning it for two years before I bought a copy for myself.
Get Up Kids – Something To Write Home About
How could this not be on my list? I do (however) insist that the Woodson 7″ and their split with Braid contain the bands 5 best songs.
Grade – Under The Radar
Why can’t today’s popcore bands sound like this? Every song is a sing-a-long.
Hot Water Music – No Division
Quit kidding yourselves, this is Hot Water Music’s best album. Period. End of discussion.
Jimmy Eat World – Clarity
This album is fucking flawless. I remember listening to a dubbed cassette of this (courtesy of the Boxer boys) almost a full year before it was finally released.
Kid Dynamite – Shorter, Faster, Louder
Seriously, would you trust someone who didn’t like Kid Dynamite?
New Found Glory – Nothing Gold Can Stay
Jordan taught my cat to scoop pieces of food from his bowl and eat them one at a time. This was back when NFG started with an A. Viva Fiddler!
The Promise Ring – Very Emergency
Post-emo-indie-pop filled with just about every cliche I can think of and, still, it never ever gets old. Hey Amy, remember when I gave you that promise ring?
Saves The Day – Through Being Cool
What ever happened to this version of Saves The Day? This is such a great road trip album.
Showoff – Showoff
I’ve always loved Chris Envy’s vocal sneer. Chris used to play in A.Y.A., Dan now plays in The Fold, and I was once in a band with Dave for about an hour.
Ultimate Fakebook – This Will Be Laughing Week
This album truly is power pop perfection of the highest order.
Wilco – Summerteeth
Wilco’s second best album. Their best topped my favorites of the 2000′s list. It makes me miss Jay Bennett.
Sooooooossssssaaaaannn.

Great list! Brings back a lot of memories.
I love this year.
