The new If You Want Blood EP from Matt Pond PA begins with more rockness than I expected from ‘em, but returns to a more traditional MPPA sound shortly thereafter. There is nothing too adventurous here and nothing that gets my blood boiling, but Matt Pond’s songs are still as good as ever. Amy and I have been huge fans for some time now and this EP is certainly getting us excited to hear the band’s new full length Last Light when it comes out on Sept. 25th. If this EP is any indicator you can expect more of Matt Pond’s sincere vocals and his beautiful melodies along with a diverse array of instrumentation. The strings (per usual) add a poignant sense of longing that is only heightened by the waning days of summer into fall.
