Justin Townes Earle – Midnight At The Movies

Without question, one of my favorite albums of 2009 thus far is Midnight At The Movies from Justin Townes Earle. Being the son of Steve Earle and named after Townes Van Zandt can’t be easy, but Justin’s work easily stands on its own. In fact, Midnight At The Movies is simply amazing and actually (IMHO) surpasses much of his father’s catalog. It is a country album with roots in old-time ragtimey folk sounds, Tin Pan Alley blues, and much more modern stuff like Whiskeytown. There is amazing (and oh so twangy) instrumentation, killer melodies, and lyrics to match. So to sum this record up in three words; highly fucking recommended.

I love his music. If anyone gets a chance to see him live, do it, you won’t regret it.
