I know I’ve mentioned it before just how dated I feel a lot of the music from the early 90’s alternative movement sounds today, and that Nirvana (to these ears at least) sounds especially dated. I don’t disagree that Nirvana was hugely instrumental in turning much of popular music on its head but if it wasn’t them, it would have been someone else. Nirvana’s success is a great example of right place, right time. If you listen to London Calling, Rubber Soul, Remain In Light, or even Appetite For Destruction today (2008) they all sound dated, but all still sound perfectly relevant. Despite being one of the most important albums in rock music history, some 15 years after its release Nevermind just doesn’t hold up.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who felt that way about Nirvana…. I really would love to see some of the other unsung amazing bands from that time and location get their props.

I’d agree that Nevermind sounds slightly dated, but not to the extent you say here, I’d say Guns’n‘Roses sound far far worse today! However, In Utero to me sounds very relevant today, the production on that serves it much better in my opinion.
Anyway, I’ve been lurking on your blog for ages, keep it up!
