People can (and will) sometimes surprise you. Last week a guy that I work with (let’s call him Mike) was talking to a co-worker when I overheard him mentioning how good Jose Gonzalez’s Veneer was. “WTF?,” I thought to myself. So (of course) I immediately jumped into the conversation, and as we got to talking a little he brought up Silversun Pickups, Plastic Constellations, Imogen Heap, Matt Skiba, Cold War Kids (who he went to college with), and more. Mike also said that he regularly reads MP3 blogs like My Old Kentucky Blog. Again, I thought, “WTF?”

Evidently there are closet indie music fans out there and, like I said before, people will surprise you. All that being said, my wife and I can’t seem to get the song below out of our heads. Damn Scissor Sisters!

1 Trevor Jackson - 749 days ago That's a cool story. How weird would it have been if he had said he read this site? Wouldn't be hard to get here from MOKB.

So, did you "out" yourself? I had a coworker tell me they found my blog. It was kind of weird, worlds colliding.

3 Ekko - 749 days ago Great series of posts last week, dude. i'd be cautious about admitting to having a blog, tho. y'never know who's listening or what they might think.
4 wifey - 749 days ago just when i get this damn song out of my head...
5 like a eagle - 749 days ago yeah, believe it or not, people do still go to record stores or the itunes music store and try new things out of the blue without being total scenester geeks like all of us...

my manager (mind you, i work in an IT Department) called me into his office last year to talk about some work crap...after about two seconds in his office, i said, "umm, are you listening to sufjan stevens?" to which he replied, "oh is that how you say it? he was on Conan the other night...it's cool stuff...i bought all of his albums on iTunes this morning."

people can definitely surprise you....my mom finding my blog and reading my shitty reviews of avant garde horseshit and black sabbath (who she saw a number of times in the 70's) is definitely the kind of thing that makes your world fold in on itself....
6 jswede - 748 days ago There was a cool story in NY Magazine this summer which, among other things, declared generation gaps disappearing. I don't quite remember the entire thing, so I'm going to re-read it now, but I do remember it making me feel young(er), and much better about getting older. I'm 33, and I can have a job, but apparently I don't have to grow up completely and lose touch.

Anyhow, I bring it up b/c of the post above about someone's boss listening to Sufjan.
