I probably haven’t mentioned it here, but we (that’s me with the wife and both kids) flew down to sunny Orlando for some fun at the Magic Kingdom and the other Disney parks about a month ago. It was hot as hell and we missed Screeching Weasel due to some family issues, but we did make it out one night to downtown to meet Elliott and Bryne who graciously filled me and the Mrs. up with way too much whiskey and too many shots to count. I mention this because I can and also because from the perspective of a tourist Orlando doesn’t seem all that bad, but I might be inclined to this twice about it after listening to the latest from Orlando’s own Gatorface. Their new album, Wasted Monuments, is fucking amazing. Melodic when it needs to be and angrily snotty everywhere else, Gatorface plays that rough pop punk card perfectly. This one has definitely been worth the wait since it seems like forever since this record was announced and (finally) it’s out now on No Idea. You know the (his)story (ex-NMDS, etc…) but this album is a beast. Sure, these guys are totally ripping off Boogada3x-era Weasel or even Ben Deily-era (superfuckinearly) Lemonheads (but maybe a little bit heavier/rougher), but who cares? I sure don’t. These guys and this album are great. You NEED to hear this.

Gatorface are really good. But the best punk band from Orlando is hands down, The Attack. Saw them play with The Cromags and H2O recently, for a new band they held their own with two legends of the scene.
