So the guys in Allister (my old bandmates) just put out their third full-length entitled Before The Blackout. It is their typical pop-punk-rock fare that doesn’t stray too far from their trademark sound. While the songwriting has gotten a little darker, more mature, and less bubblegum, it’s still undeniably Allister. Tim and Scottie will always sound the same. Even though my musical tastes have moved (far) past pop-punk, I still hold these guys dear in my heart. This record won’t make my top ten of 2005 list, but I still find it very (very) nostalgic and quite enjoyable.

Next week Drive-Thru/Geffen Records is putting out what they are calling Drive-Thru Records Greatest Hits. Yeah right. I opened Montresor’s vaults and compiled my unofficial version of that list for y’all. It features old songs from A New Found Glory (note the “A” before NFG), the haters in Midtown, the former Supermarket All-Stars in Last Summer, and more. I’ve also included a track by The Hippos since they were good friends of ours (and of the label), plus two by The Wrens. They were almost (thank God they decided against it) signed to Drive-Thru back in 1999. Their tracks posted below are both (very) different versions of songs that ended up on their phenomenal album The Meadowlands.
MP3 | The Wrens – Miss Me YNEFFA Compilation
MP3 | A New Found Glory – Passing Time Nothing Gold Can Stay
MP3 | RX Bandits – Lost Halfway Between Here And There
MP3 | Allister – X-Girlfriend You Can’t Do That On Vinyl 7”
MP3 | Last Summer – This Looks Like A Good Spot Remember Those Days
MP3 | Midtown – Direction Save The World, Lose The girl
MP3 | Caught Inside – Solstice Bolts In The Machine
MP3 | Mothermania – Mom & Dad Before The Blackout
MP3 | The Hippos – Forget The World Forget The World
MP3 | The Wrens – This Boy Is Exhausted YNEFFA Compilation

I heard about this advertising scheme on a another blog, that gives away free XBOX 360 gaming systems. It sounded like a scam, but after I googled it, it was legitmiate. You have to sign up for an offer from one the sponser companies. I did a free trial one. There’s still time to get one before Cristmas! Here’s the link, check it out.

I’m sure Richard has some really tactful things to say about this Geffen/Drive-Thru Greatest Hits record . . .

Hi eric, the name to the wrens “this boy is exhausted” is wrong named, it says “miss me” …just thought you should know.
Great post!
Thanks for the note Moka. Noted and changed.
Okay, so silly question- did you play on “Deadends and Girlfriends”? I enjoyed that slice of childhood.
ok, i have to jump in here!
i get nostalgic when we talk about allister too, because it’s how eric and i met. eric did play on “dead ends and girlfriends” – he wrote and sang “chasing amy”. written for me, as an acoustic song and then incorporated into the first allister lp.
see how i enjoy telling this story?! those were the days.
Bandwidth getting bigger?
