I just got a new (at least to me) camera so now I just need to learn how to take decent pictures with it. I have always encouraged my wife to be the photographer of the family, but I thought it was about time for me to give it a try.

The camera is a Canon 300D Digital Rebel that I also got a few lenses for. It is sweet! Unfortunately I really only have rudimentary knowledge of how to manipulate shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc… to realize the camera’s (and my) full potential and, thus, can’t really use it as anything other than a point-and-shoot right now. So sometime in the near future (after I learn how to use the camera a little better) I will be figuring out how to upload photos and be posting them like crazy. So if anyone reading this knows anything about taking pictures with a digital SLR camera, lay it on me. I am eager to learn.

So I was just remembering last winter when Amy and I went to go see Lucero at the Bottom Lounge. They were great (per usual) but the best thing about that show was the opener. There was some local band (who cares) and then William Elliott Whitmore. His performance floored me. His entire set consisted of him playing banjo or guitar accompanied by his own voice, harmonica, and even stomping. It was incredible. Here was this scruffy, tattooed, punk-lookin’ guy that was singing these gut-wrenching songs about loss with so much conviction that he gave me chills. He opened the set with an acapella tune using nothing more than his booming voice. Listen below to a song from his latest record and if you have the chance, go see him live.

1 JT - 1261 days ago I am TERRIBLE at taking pictures. I always think that I see a good picture to take, but when I take that jump to actually taking a picture, it never turns out well. EVER. Good luck to you and yr new equipment!

Good songs too -- The Streets has been in solid rotation in my mp3 list for a while. I might post some on FMGT at some point too.

Oh, and LB is back online, finally. They fixed their servers and made it reappear, so expect articles to begin appearing as of tomorrow, depending on our jobs and whatnot.

Does William EW tour much at all?
