Day Six Without Mommy

For the first night in the past few, Hailey went to bed really easily tonight but ten minutes after putting Hailey to bed she started crying and calling out, “Daddy! Daddy!” It broke my heart to just let her cry but I know that she is just weirded out because Amy has been gone almost a week now and she just really misses her mommy. So do I. Anyhow, Hailey then starts saying, “I’m bleeding,” which always gets my attention because of her frequent nosebleeds.
When I got upstairs there was no bleeding. Just a fussy, crying child that said the wind outside her room and the big tree were bothering her. She wanted me to hold her. She wanted me to sing to her. She wanted anything but to sleep in her bed and only wanted to sleep in our bed instead of her own. An easy request but when she told me “NO!” a few times and wasn’t listening to me, I got stern and a bit loud with her. She started crying and screeching louder than I was being.
It was a fucking mess and now it is after 10PM. The long and the short of it is that Hailey is sleeping peacefully and contentedly in our bed as I’m downstairs typing this. I gave in. Parent: 0, Child: 1.
It ain’t as easy as it looks.
