Catfish Haven / Titus Andronicus / Lucero – Live 4/10/09 @ Metro

Wow! I’m finally getting this review up over a week after the show. It really has been on of those weeks people! I’ve also realized that I shouldn’t take photos with our little point-and-shoot as they don’t turn out so well. So last Friday I met up with my sisters and their significant others to go see some bands at Metro presented by our friends at Muzzle Of Bees. My twin sister’s finance (let’s call him Tim) is a big Catfish Haven fan so we headed out early enough to see them and (as usual) they didn’t disappoint. I don’t recall hearing any new stuff, but if you are a fan of music that makes you wanna move, you’ve gotta love you some Catfish Haven. We do!

Next up was Titus Andronicus from New Jersey. Now I had heard good things about Titus Andronicus but (for whatever reason) it didn’t really translate to the stage that night. The band was highly entertaining, but ridiculously hard to listen to.

And finally we got us some Lucero. My sister ended up getting way drunk during their near 2-1/2 hour set and could barely stand up, but it was A-OK as the band was as drunk as I’ve ever seen them during any of the 10 (or so) Lucero shows I’ve witnessed. That (however) doesn’t mean that they weren’t good. They brought along a pedal steel guitar player and a guy playing keys so they sounded good. The band played a lot of new songs that were good but all seemed a bit slow, a lot of old songs, some songs from Ben’s recent solo album Last Pale Light In The West, and a bunch of songs they started but didn’t finish. In fact, the band didn’t even play an encore. They just sorta stopped playing because they were just too drunk to keep going. And that is the way it goes.
