Lance has changed the face of modern cycling, no doubt about that. He has taken specialization to a whole new level. However, I can’t agree on the best cyclist ever. He’s probably the best Tour de France rider ever, but he’s got nothing on Eddie Merckx. Merckx won all three great Tours in one year, had five Tour de France victories and won smaller races of every flavor. The man is a cycling god.

I completely agree about the version of Hummingbird in the Wilco Book. I reviewed the book/CD for a magazine, and that version is just more aggressive in line with the lyrics. The AGIB version is way too aloof, too casual.

Glad you liked the Four Tet/Notwist/Manitoba track.

JT - The Wilco book definately presents a different side of what Wilco does, but imho the alternate version of Hummingbird is better than on AGIB.

Ayn - Thanks! Isnt Napoleon Dynamite from Idaho? He is pretty cool.

Mr. B Trusted - True dat! Without Lance's supporting cast winning would be near-impossible. I agree that his team deserves a ton of credit, but would they be able to propel any professional cyclist to the level Lance is at right now? Doubtful.

Yeah, I think without them, he would certainly have to exert himself a lot more and might not get the same results. That is definitely the defining thing about Lance/his team: they really are a team.

Other top riders on other teams don't have that dedication, or rather that quality of support, as most of the best "set-up men" want to lead Armstrong into the Yellow Jersey. Those who leave to lead other teams flounder so heavily -- looking at Roberto Heras and Julich, both of whom left to chance their arms, and he slaughtered them in the Alps on tuesday.

Thanks for the LB support -- yeah, just starting a new job made it hard to juggle both of my major websites, but I've figured out the routine and it should all be back to normal, every day and with fresh goods, etc. If I wasn't able to work full-time from home, it might be a different story!

Will be checking out yr blogs, and adding them to the reading lists.

I LOVE Lingering Bursitis! Great fan site. I read it everyday (or as often as its updated between weekend benders!)

Lance - is amazing, but let's not forget those self-sacrificing bastards on his team. They ride for him to win, without any interest in their own glory. That is unbelievable.

You should check out the CD that came with the art/photography/music project The Wilco Book last year, if you haven't already. Some tip-top demos and rough song sketches that augment an already solid band.
