Black Dice – Repo

I don’t think that there’s any question that the dudes in Black Dice are just trying to mess with us. I mean, their newest album Repo is filled with spastic electro-noise that whirrs, pulses, and screeches in an oddly organic way like it’s the soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic dance party. Just imagine an army of those mechanical crickets from Wall-E chirping along to the hum of the expiring grid and malfunctioning electronics. Even though there is little linking the sounds on Repo to anything resembling “dance music,” there are discernible beats that may make you want to move a little before the rest of it freaks you the fuck out. Black Dice is not for everyone, but I’ve always been a sucker for noise and electronic manipulations. That said, even though there are some difficult and almost terrifying moments on Repo, it is still an awesome album and worth a listen (or many).
