Eric, I didn't mean that comment in a derogatory way. I said the sentence made me cringe because Chicago's punk scene goes back to 1976 and it is very sad that people are not aware of our rich history.

Obviously, it's a big problem since our Chi scene, heck the whole mid-west scene, keeps getting passed over in these books and movies that come out.

Myself and others are working hard to record our history to provide a legacy for both you and the world.

If I had problems with the current scene, I probably wouldn't be at the shows every weekend, like I am. Please don't take offense where there isn't any. Certainly you can understand my perspective... Chicago punk has been going since 1976 and apparently people forgot!
Marie, I don't really see what the problem with that comment is. I was probably about 14 when I first heard Weasel and the like. Everyone has gotta start somewhere, right?
"I originally thought they were from California because at that time, I was only beginning to discover that Chicago even had a punk scene."

Wow, that sentence kind of made me cringe... Chicago has a very rich punk history. Our first punk club, La Mere Vipere, was also the first punk club in the United States. I invite you to visit my site-- chicagopunkpix.com to come learn about our awesome history.
great post. ya know up until right now though, i still thought they were from california. I think a lot of people assumed most punk bands of that era that weren't clearly from new york or boston were just Californians.
