I don’t think Aloha gets enough credit for being as good a band as they are. Their latest full-length, Home Acres, was just released on Polyvinyl Records and it feels like a natural progression to the mesmerizing and complex indie pop of Some Echoes and Light Works. Again, drummer Cale Parks’ jazzy percussion and vibes impress without being overbearing. There is a restraint to Aloha’s music that gives the songs a palpable tension that is hard to describe without hearing.
I’d liken Home Acres to the musical equivalent of some precisely and delicately folded origami bird. It is as lovely and soothing as it is complex. Aloha the band (and the songs on Home Acres) are (however) at their best when they up the energy level and indulge in their noticeable post-rock tendencies as they do on the album’s first single “Moonless March.” It all comes together beautifully like watching fireworks during a snowstorm or (perhaps) like watching time lapse video of a plant maturing from seed to fully grown.

Yes!! This is easily one of THE best bands out there. Brilliant writing, perfect execution, & songs that just feel so damn good. These people are true musicians!
Home Acres takes the cake for accessibility w/out sacrificing greatness. But it’s possible nothing will top Sugar & That’s Your Fire. Worth a listen for anyone looking for something that gets better & better with every listen.
